London penthouse flat at One Hyde Park sells for 160MILLION to become Britain's most expensive hom

A LUXURY £160million penthouse has become Britain's most expensive home — with heated marble floors and a walk-in wardrobes bigger than most flats.

The mega-apartment at One Hyde Park in Central London's most exclusive neighbourhood also comes with a 21-metre pool, a cinema and even a library.

It was recently remortgaged by property tycoon Nick Candy — who along with brother Christian has become the go-to developer to the world's super-rich.

Land Registry figures show that the flat, which also has a pedicure room and overlooks London's Knightsbridge and Hyde Park, was valued at the record-breaking sum.

It was reported yesterday that the flat was sold to a mystery buyer — but was in fact remortgaged using an £80million loan by Mr Candy, 45, as he looks to let it.

Mr Candy had lived at the house with his wife the singer and actress Holly Valance, but the pair have now moved a few streets away to the luxury Providence House in Chelsea.

Now the property is in the legal ownership of Guernsey-registered PHB London Holdings — a company controlled by Mr Candy.

A spokesman for Candy Capital told The Times: “I can confirm that this is indeed a refinancing rather than a sale, but I am not able to comment any further.”

One Hyde Park was designed by Richard Rogers at Rogers, Stirk, Harbour and Partners.

It opened in 2011 with flats and is made up of 86 apartments commanding a record-breaking price of up to £7,000 per square foot.

The interior was designed by Candy & Candy — the firm set up by Nick and Christian from just a £6,000 family loan in 1995 and now solely run by Nick.

The building is guarded around the clock by SAS-trained security and serviced by an in-house maid service.

Residents can also enjoy dry cleaning and room service provided by the five-star Mandarin hotel next door — and personal temperature-controlled wine store.

Saunas, steam rooms, a squash court and the cinema also make up the development's "unmatched leisure and entertainment facilities".

Property consultant Simon Barnes, who toured some of the building's £10million one-bed flats, said: "It is an amazing place and is not like buying a one-bedroom flat.

"It is a very modern, high quality build, you have the Mandarin next door and the ultimate concierge.

"The sort of person who will look at it is likely to be the sort of person who spends a lot of time in a hotel.

"But for £10 million you could get quite a few nights in the finest hotel suite.

"The bar in residential development keeps being raised.

"What you lack in London are the locations to build on which is why they can charge such a price at One Hyde Park.

"Will the quality of developments improve? Yes, but it is highly unlikely you find a better location."

The highest-valued property before now was a luxury flat in Admiralty Arch near Buckingham Palace — which went on sale for £150m in 2016.
